Pennsylvania Route 23 (PA 23) is an state highway in southeastern Pennsylvania. The route begins at Pennsylvania Route 441, PA 441 in Marietta, Pennsylvania, Marietta and heads east to U.S. Route 1 in Pennsylvania, U.S. Route 1 (US 1) at City Avenue on the border of Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania, Lower Merion Township and Philadelphia. PA 23 begins at Marietta in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Lancaster County and continues east to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Lancaster, where it passes through the city on a one-way pair of streets and intersects U.S. Route 222, US 222 and U.S. Route 30 in Pennsylvania, US 30. East of Lancaster, the route runs through agricultural areas in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, serving Leola, Pennsylvania, Leola, New Holland, Pennsylvania, New Holland, and Blue Ball, Pennsylvania, Blue Ball, the latter location where it crosses U.S. Route 322 in Pennsylvania, US 322. Pennsylvania Department Of Transportation
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) oversees transportation issues in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The administrator of PennDOT is the Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation, currently Yassmin Gramian. Presently, PennDOT supports over of state roads and highways, about 25,000 bridges, as well as new roadway construction, the exception being the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, although they currently follow PennDOT policies and procedures.
